It breaks my heart

Today its easy to become weary. We see darkness all around us.

Dishonesty at every level, manipulation and bullying,

the lack of will to do the RIGHT THING when we know we should.

Folks have turned inward and as a result, hearts have been broken:

it breaks my heart too, because we need each other.

Being lied to is no longer just a practice like it used to be,

it's become a way of life. And how much can we get done

as a society if we lie to each other?  if we bully? if we cheat each other?

if we do only things that are in our own self interest while lying to each other

about other things that are not in our OWN self interest,

that we refuse to do for each other? (yet are things in the honest goodness of the day

that we need to do for each other.)

We see it not only in politicians, we see it in law enforcement.

The love of many is waxing cold.

People who say they are going to help us, but have no intention AT ALL of helping us,

or making the world a better place for all to live in.

We see it in employers who say they are interested in us, but continue to drive workers with slave wages and no chances of advancement.

We see it in employees who quit jobs, and lie about the places they were at, and refuse to stay loyal to the next place they work at.

Why have we become so rotten to each other and so duplicitous?

I am reminded of the words of the late Manly P. Hall, who remarked,

"Our ingenuity has outstripped our integrity, we can invent many things,

but we don’t know how to use them." 

I would also like to add to his comment:

We also don’t know how to treat each other.

Again, if breaks my heart.
